A NEW BEGINING:)

A NEW BEGINING

I wanted to find peace in this world
I wanted to find love and happiness
But the only thing I found was
Racism and inequality
between women and men
people believe that you are more
valuable than me.
Only because your at a certain level of life
Or because your gender is considered
more important than mine
But you know something,
what will your life be like If I didn't exit?
Can you make this a better place without me?
Can you make it became a happier place?
Please don’t make me feel less
I am not asking you to love me
you don’t even have to like me
But respect me,
We’ll simply start over
there’s a miracle of friendship that dwells
within the heart
And you don’t know how it happens
or were it starts,
But the happiness it brings you,
Always gives a special lift’
and you realize that friendship
Is Gods most perfect gift!!!:)

Racial Oppression and Hegemony has been used to Create Slavery

Racial oppression and Hegemony has been used to Create Slavery

How would you feel if someone took advantage over you, only because you had a different background and race, and they exploited you by working everyday, and you couldn't do anything about it because you weren’t allowed to speak against them? In the book Kindred, by Octavia Butler, Dana is a young successful African American who was forced to live the burden of the work slaves did , the punishment they received, and the fears they lived daily. She lives in a place where technology rules ,but now she must learn to survive, knowing she is only a piece of property. This is the ultimate horror of slavery. Taking the beaten, being tortured fearing always, being sold  in the Deep South ,or dying at the hands of ones owner who are all insignificant. When one thing is about the basic loss of humanity. Knowing that how well you live or how well you behaved you were just disposable goods, must have been the most degrading part of all aspects of slavery. So racial oppression and hegemony has been used to create slavery.
First of all, one reason that I believe that Racial oppression and hegemony has been used to create slavery in (pg.99)it said,”We saw a group of slave gathered at a tree stomp. These were children too young to be of much use in the field themselves. They went on playing while we watched and listened...”Now have a likely wench”, called the boy on the stump. He gestured toward the girl who stood slightly behind him.”she cook wash and iron.Come here Gal let the folks see you.” he continued “she worth plenty of money. Two hundred dollars.Who bid two hundred dollars?” The girl turned to frown at him ”I’’m worth more than two hundred dollars Sammy.”she protested”you sold Martha for five hundred dollars.” “ you shut your mouth” said the boy, you ain’t supposed to say anything.”This is one reason that racial oppression and hegemony has been used to create slavery because their play act is preparing these unfortunate children for their future , that will come whether they understand it or not. And this demonstrates how easy is for people to accept slavery only because they are a different color!

Secondly, another reason I believe that racial oppression and hegemony has been used to create  slavery because African American weren’t allowed to be taught how taught how to read and write. They didn’t have that right . But over time that type of oppression has been transformed. This connects to the book Kindred because Dana the main character taught Nigel how to read and write and possibly Nigel would have taught others when Dana was gone. But one people could over come this is by learning how to read and write even if it had to be in secrete, because education is a key to freedom.Things get easier when you have a little knowledge. When you know how to read and write people don’t take much advantage of you. This connects to many immigrants and children when they ask themselves the question of identity, and how often we allow others to identify us and colonize our consciousness. Ones we are “given” our identities we are then often and stereotyped because of them. this is what happened to slaves back in time on the rural eastern shore of Maryland near Baltimore in the years 1819 through 1838 or 1840.At the Weylin's plantation were many African Americans were taken advantage of and lived those stereotypes of being African Americans and were considered less because of their background were hegemony was developed. Now this confirms that Racial Oppression and Hegemony has been used to create slavery.

Also, manipulation was one way that led to racial oppression and hegemony that have created slavery. To prove my point in (pg. 169) in the book Kindred it said that, “He had found a way to control me by threatening others.” Many people control other just to obtain what they want. An in that way many people suffer , because the oppressor oppresses them, just to have their desires come true. Also on (pg. 124) when it said that , “I was beginning to realize that he loved the women- to her misfortune..There was no shame in Raping a black woman, but there  could be shame in loving one.” Dana concludes this after arrives in the past to find that Rufus has raped Alice and tried to kill her husband Isaac. Because of hegemony this guy Rufus thought that he had the right to have what he wanted when ever he wanted , because he knew that Alice couldn't do anything about it. Also because he knew that she didn’t have any rights by her side so she couldn’t defend herself from him. This evidence proves that manipulation was one way that led to racial oppression and hegemony that caused slavery.

For slaves freedom is something for they yearn but most have resigned themselves  that they will never have. Even how slavery still continues going on today maybe not how it was back then , but its sure going on somehow. Many people are suffering for this, like in the book Kindred some tested the system and tried to escape to a free state. But when they were caught they faced the consequences of being whipped , and loosing their families. Nonetheless the North Star calls to them always because human slavery i not natural, a wise man changes his mind but a fool never will.

To conclude, every person has a history behind him or her that one has no part of making ,nor ask to be part of it. People reap the benefit or the disadvantages of the life they are born into. The social stereotypes that surround us, shape our identity and consequently, the decisions we have no other outlet or if we feel as though there are no other options , we live those stereotypes. Some are harmful to us and leave us disadvantaged even to the point of oppression to ourselves. In order to end social oppression many people should think about what they do before making someone feel less only because they are from a different race. An not let other people talk about you. This is why racial oppression and hegemony is one way that led to slavery.” Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed unless it is faced.” By James Baldwin (1924-1987) African American writer.
